Color
Days:
To reinforce color recognition, each calendar month is
designated by a specific color. Playdough, books and craft
projects incorporate the color of the month. Color day occurs
once a month, please refer to the
calendar
or newsletter for dates and will be celebrated in the morning
classes only. On that day, if a child owns some clothing in that
color, he/she is encouraged to wear it. Please do not
purchase something specifically for the day. Children are
also encouraged to bring an item which is that color to share
with the class (book, doll, stuffed animal, flower, leaf, car,
ribbon, etc.). Your teacher is available for further details.
Theme Days:
The
five day afternoon classes will have a different monthly celebration with
theme days. Please refer to the
calendar
or newsletter for dates. The theme of the month will also be used in stories,
music and craft projects. Theme day occurs once a month and your
child may bring in an item which relates to the theme. Please do
not purchase something specifically for the day.
Halloween:
This
can be a fearful time for young children, so Halloween is
handled very informally. Costumes are optional and classroom
routine varies little. Halloween celebrated,
Wednesday, October
29, 2008
3 A.M. Classes,
Thursday, October
30, 2008 4
A.M. Classes, and
Friday, October 31,
2008 Young
Three & 5 P.M. Classes.
Parent Day:
We have set aside two special days for the parents. These days
create an opportunity to come and share a day with your child at
nursery school. You will have
the chance to experience some of
the day-to-day activities such as: block-building,
story-telling, painting and, if the weather permits, playground
activities. The dates for this year are
Saturday, October
25, 2008 in the Fall,
and in the Spring,
Friday, April
22, 2008.
Please dress comfortably, as their activities may drag you to
the floor, or you may encounter water and paint.
Holiday Parties:
Family members are invited for refreshments and a sing-along at
our December Holiday Party. This party is during our school
hours just before Winter break. The party schedule is as
follows:
-
2-day

School Picnic:
The
end of the school year is celebrated with a picnic. All NFCNS
families are invited to bring their blankets and picnic lunches.
The staff will join all in saying good-bye to the school year on
Wednesday,
May 27, 2009.

Birthday Celebrations:
Birthdays are special days at NFCNS! Your child's birthday
celebration will be scheduled into one of the days on the SNACK
CALENDAR. If your child has a summer birthday, we will
select a day to celebrate a half-birthday.
Last year, a new snack procedure was implemented at NFCNS to
provide healthier, allergy-safe snack options for our children.
Accordingly, this year we are also eliminating Birthday treats
brought in by parents. We currently have several children
at our school that have food allergies, some very serious, and
we can not risk having these items brought into our classrooms.
Of course, we all agree that NFCNS must provide a healthy and
safe environment for all children. Schools in our area,
and across the country, are making similar changes to their food
policies.
Even without the cupcakes, your child will have a very special
celebration for their birthday!!
We all know how very special birthdays are for children and we
love giving the children the opportunity to share it with
friends and teachers. Teachers will continue to follow a
Birthday routine to make your child's day memorable and fun.
In lieu of something brought into the classroom, we will provide
a special snack that day, such as 100% fruit popsicles, that
everyone can enjoy.
Here are some other, fun ideas:
-
Bring in your
child's favorite book and read it to the class.
-
Bring in your
child's favorite music to listen to during class.
-
Plan to come
into class to talk about the day your child was born and
tell the class how you chose their name.
-
Purchase a book
for the school library in honor of your child's birthday. Randy Orlove, has a selection of books
in her office for purchase. The book will be inscribed
with your child's name, and your child will get an honorable
mention in our newsletter. NFCNS has established an extensive
library through generous birthday donations.
-
Purchase
something from your teacher's
Wish List. These are
items that each teacher would love to have for their
classrooms...
Also, please
remember:
If you have any
questions or concerns regarding Birthday Celebrations at NFCNS,
please contact Randy Orlove or Melissa Yeoman.
