Each child is unique and develops at his or her own pace. Play provides the best means of growth and development.

Personalized education. Each child is unique and develops at his or her own pace. Play provides the best means of growth and development. Northfield Community Nursery School helps build a foundation for learning through the development of the social, emotional and intellectual skills of a young child. Through self-directed play, children learn to express themselves by thinking logically, solving problems creatively, and interacting positively within a group. Creative play provides opportunities for exploring, experimenting and achieving success. Play helps children build self-esteem and independence.

Plenty of attention from staff. All of our warm, caring, enthusiastic teachers have a bachelor’s or master’s degree and regularly attend conference related to the field of early childhood. Most of our staff has been with NFCNS for many years. In addition, our Music Specialist adds a unique, creative element to every class by introducing music to the children through singing and movement. We believe in building a strong partnership between teachers, parents and children.

Secure Environment.  Secure environment. Our classrooms are spacious and bright, warmly furnished with engaging learning activities designed to stimulate the children’s imagination and creativity. Our private outdoor playground features a variety of sturdy equipment to encourage both active and imaginative play. NFCNS children play in our spacious, carpeted indoor gym during inclement weather so that the children participate in gross motor play each and every day.

Educational Organization:
Scientifically-based research has provided both parents and educators with a new understanding of children's rapid brain development from the beginning. Research has shown that most of the child's potential for learning is established by age six. During these early years, children need a stimulating environment which will enable them to build their own knowledge through many and varied opportunities to see, hear, smell, taste, and feel. This includes opportunities to explore and experiment, to question and guess, to fail and try again.

Researchers have proven that children who experience just one year in a high-quality learning environment experience significant positive developmental gains compared to children who may not have the advantage of quality care.  Through research, we know that young children learn primarily through play. In play, children feel the freedom to try out new ideas, practice skills and imitate adult roles. As our teachers plan activities and direct opportunities for children to work together, children learn to get along with others and to feel good about themselves. These experiences affect their growth and all other learning for the rest of their lives.
